COL. TOM KETTELL
To meet our responsibilities to the citizens of our communities, states and country and to ensure that we follow the mandates in our charter, every member, and most importantly commanders of the Civil Air Patrol, are guided by the Civil Air Patrol’s core values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence and Respect. We respect our members by communicating with them in ways that demonstrate that we care enough about them to let them know the “why” behind decisions. We make volunteer service important by placing emphasis on safety and training, showing our members that the time they give to CAP is valuable and we won’t squander it on irrelevant meetings. We show our commitment to excellence by carefully selecting our leaders, mentoring them to learn their job and helping them to move into the next position. In my opinion integrity is the most important of the core values. Integrity is not something you can assume as you are given command. You are recognized as a leader and people choose to follow you because you have displayed integrity as a part of your journey through the organization.
Remember, our mission requires a team effort. Each of you is an integral part of our team. I am confident that all of you will do your part to help CAP meet its mission goals and objectives.
As the commander of the Rocky Mountain Region I look forward to working with and meeting as many of you as possible during this coming year.
Tom Kettell, Col., CAP
